Educate your Heart

Educate your Heart

My major is a Health Science pre professional and I have chosen this major due to the fact that since I was small the country where I come from had really bad health care programs and people did not get helped often as they should have. I want to become a doctor and be able to help those who need me, I am not in for the money but I also do wish that if I were to accomplish my goals to help out people in the country who cannot afford as much help with their help as those fortunate ones who can. I want to be able to go out and travel and do as much service as I can. My mother gave her career up for me and I know that I will make her proud and that I will be able to help her and those in my family who also need me. I want to be an example for those who think that they cannot start from zero and raise the bar up because I know that we can, if we set out goals to it we will get there.

Since I was little the Health Care program from where I grew up (Peru) lacked of efficiency. My mom was a doctor there and she decided to sacrifice the career she loved for me and my sister to be able to come to the United States. I want to be able to show everyone in Peru, and everyone everywhere that although one can start from zero at a country one can grow to be amazing. I want to be a doctor and I want to be the best doctor this country is got to offer, I want people to know who I am and know my name, I am not looking for recognition but looking to set an example. I want to give money to those who are not able to afford for medical care. I am aware that this is a big goal but I am a very driven person and I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind too. I would like the opportunity to receive money to help me accomplish it, at the moment we are not able to afford it but even then, I know I will go far.

Currently I am not able to fully afford school, although I am working hard my mom had to switch jobs and does not earn as much. By getting the scholarship I will be able to attend school and be able to focus on the academics instead of focusing on working and staying in the same place I am at now. I want to be able to study and get really far in life, but without the money is a little difficult to do so. I just hope I can earn it and I know and promise I will study really hard and make it worth all the money in the world, I just want to be able to go to ASU and attend school and study what I have been dreaming of since I was a kid, without having to worry about the money.

I decided to start a project where I would raise money to help the kids in Guatemala go to school. I became the project leader and recruited a few students to help me out raise the sufficient funds. At the end of the project we were able to raise money worth of 4 years of education over there and we also sponsored 3 different kids. It was very exciting to me to know the ability that I had to help these students over there who could not afford a better education. I learned that by giving service to others we can humble ourselves and learn to appreciate the things that this country is got to offer. I learned how to work hard and not think about only me but about other people who need help who are out there and we do not really think about, a lot of times we complain about ourselves and the situations we are in but we need to be selfless and I learned a little bit more about that once I was done with the project. My biggest reward was getting to see those kids so happy because of what we had accomplished.
